Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the process for adults to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. It is for a) persons in need of Baptism, b) persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic, and c) persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation.
The R.C.I.A. Catechist facilitates sessions designed to help participants deepen their understanding and living of basic Catholic Truths. The catechist has a good knowledge of the Catholic faith and is able to work with adults and facilitate discussions. Must be able to meet on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
As an RCIA Sponsor, you are a companion who walks with and supports the catechumen (or candidate) during their faith journey into the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. You attend the Wednesday and Sunday RCIA sessions and are available to share your faith on a day-to-day basis as needed by the person you sponsor.
