"Urged on by the charity of Christ, the people of the Cathedral parish will attend to the needs of those in our parish community."
The Altar Society provides necessities for the altar: bread, wine, candles and seasonal flowers. Members serve funeral dinners and receptions as requested. Activities include a monthly meeting with guest speaker or entertainment, the monthly Birthday Lunch, and various fund raisers as determined by the group.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization for Catholic men. They coordinate charitable projects within the community with emphasis on pro-life issues, the mentally disabled and religious vocations.
Meals on Wheels
Volunteers deliver meals for two consecutive weekends to qualified persons.
Prayer Line members pray daily for the needs of the parish in general and for the specific intentions of persons in need of prayer.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul seek personal holiness by works of charity. The Cathedral Conference sponsors a monthly food collection the second Sunday of each month and the annual Thanksgiving collection. Assistance is made to those in need, particularly parishioners, by helping pay utilities, rent, food and bus fare.
The Lord's Diner Volunteer
Located at the corner of Broadway and Central, The Lord's Diner serves dinner nightly from 5:30 -7:30 p.m., 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays. Cathedral Parish's night to serve is the second Tuesday of each month. Members form two teams, one which arrives at noon for food preparation; the second arrives at 5:15 p.m. to serve the clients and clean up. All volunteers are required to take a food handler's course offered by the Sedgwick County Health Department.
